Eduardo V.C composed the Sons of Mezcal soundtrack using a collection of traditional Mexican instruments. He largely used the Quiote, also known as Trompeta Maya, which is fashioned from the towering, dense stalk which grows from the heart of matured agave plants.

Are all the families in Sons of Mezcal related?

Sons of Mezcal highlights the lives of four families from four different villages in Oaxaca. Several of the individuals in the film are members of the Cortés family, while the other featured mezcaleros are from their own families. However, all the families featured in the documentary work together as part of a tightly-knit community of mezcal producers that provide the foundations for the El Jolgorio, Nuestra Soledad, and Agave de Cortés brands of mezcal.
